During the 60th Art Biennale, until the end of July 2024, a floating platform bearing a circular wooden structure will be moored a short distance away from the international exhibition: ARENA FOR A TREE. Nestled against the backdrop of the historic Arsenale Nord, the temporary installation stands as an ark with a sole protagonist at its centre: the tree. The “Arena for a Tree” is a freely accessible venue for contemplation. It was conceived as a silent alternative to the numerous events that the rambling Arsenale accommodates nowadays. Set apart from all commercial interests, it incorporates aspects related to the climate and water supply into the backdrop of Venice.
“When the trees are in leaf, we see a beacon of hope in them. When they drop their leaves, we think about impermanence. The tree is a sign of life, a representative of the diversity of species and a witness to the vulnerability of the global ecosystem.“ says Klaus Littmann.
