On 22 October, music, poetry, images and the forest came together at the Voltahalle Basel. Under the artistic direction of Yury Revich, the interdisciplinary concert PASTORALE combined Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony, the “Pastoral”, with the visual worlds of Paul Klee and poetic texts about forests and nature.
Beethoven’s “Pastorale” was performed in a version specially arranged for sextet, played by Yury Revich and his ensemble. Actress Sunnyi Melles gave a compelling reading of selected texts about forests and nature. Animations based on works by Paul Klee accompanied the interplay of music and words.
Klaus Littmann was part of the evening as a guest and offered an insight into his art intervention “FOR FOREST – The Unending Attraction of Nature”, realised at the Wörthersee Stadium in Klagenfurt in 2019 and centred on the relationship between humans and nature.
PASTORALE is a project by “Unser Wald”, marking the anniversary “150 Years of Swiss Forest Protection”.
Heartfelt thanks to Yury Revich and his ensemble, Sunnyi Melles, Gisela Kato and everyone involved for this special evening.
