Inspired by the main exhibition of the Biennale entitled ‘Stranieri Ovunque – Foreigners Everywhere’, ‘Arena for a Tree’ explores themes of migration and identity. Over entire geological eras, the ‘Bald Cypress’ (Taxodium distichum), which plays a prominent role in the installation, was native to various regions of the world. While its current habitat mainly covers large parts of Central and South America, the impending spectre of global warming indicates that it could also gain a foothold in Europe.
