The Project

There illustrations on the cover of SPIEGEL magazine are part of a long tradition. The artists behind them, such as Braldt Bralds, Boris Artzybasheff, Dieter Wiesmüller and Michael Matthias Prechtl, rank or have ranked among the world's leading illustrators. The exhibition "Die Kunst des SPIEGEL - Titelillustrationen aus fünf Jahrzehnten" ("The Art of SPIEGEL – Five Decades of Cover Illustrations") brings together over 200 works that originally appeared in SPIEGEL by over 60 illustrators, together with the editions in which they were printed. This exhibition gives an unusual glimpse into stylistic, contemporary and political history, as well as enabling visitors to learn about the methods used by the illustrators and SPIEGEL's cover editors. The artists and their work form the core of the exhibition. Internationally renowned illustrators are being invited to the opening, where they will be giving information about their work and signing exclusive limited editions featuring their title motifs. The artists will also be holding workshops in traditional and digital painting and drawing techniques and giving presentations about the way in which a SPIEGEL title page is created.
