As part of the exhibition “Wirziana – the other world of Peter Wirz” at FOR ART Basel, we present the
documentary film «DER WILDE WEISSE – eine Familiensaga ohne Ende» (2008) 80 min.
Afterwards, a discussion will take place with filmmaker Renatus Zürcher – in the presence of Dadi Wirz.
An unbridled thirst for adventure led the Swiss ethnologist Paul Wirz on seven journeys to the South Seas, “where sea and jungle roar, and savages and cannibals dwell.”
In New Guinea, the eccentric scholar found his personal paradise. Fifty years later, his son Dadi and grandson Pawi set out on a journey to discover why Paul Wirz felt so at home among the Papuans. (Quote: swissfilms.ch)
