The Project

UEFA Women’s EURO 2025

“Bridge Kick” – Football connects. People. Cultures. Nations.
On the occasion of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025, Basel is sending a message about the unifying power of football through the project “Bridge Kick.” The city is using one of its most iconic elements – its bridges – as a symbolic stage: after all, bridges overcome boundaries, connect shores, cultures, and perspectives – just like football.

Bridges as a stage for solidarity
At the heart of this artistic intervention are five oversized footballs, with diameters corresponding to the width of the road. These will be prominently installed on the Middle Bridge. This striking installation will have a strong visual impact both for pedestrians and from an aerial perspective: football as a bridge between people and nations.

Five balls – five matches – five symbols
The number of balls symbolises the five matches that will be played in Basel as part of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 – including the opening match and the final. Each ball represents one game and becomes a living symbol of togetherness. The footballs are not only visual highlights within the urban space but also carry a powerful message: they stand for dialogue, unity, and exchange through sport.

Participation and symbolic power
A special highlight of the project is its participatory element: before or after each match, the two opposing teams will meet on the bridge and jointly sign one of the five balls. This symbolic act underscores shared experiences, mutual respect, and the unifying power of football beyond competition. Each signed ball thus becomes a unique testament to international connectedness.

The Middle Bridge as a place of encounter
The Middle Bridge – one of Basel’s oldest and most important bridges – becomes a place of dialogue, encounter, and coming together through “Bridge Kick.” True to the project’s name: Bridge stands for connection, for overcoming distance – physical, cultural, and emotional. Kick symbolises the energy, movement, and dynamism of football – and at the same time the impulse to build bridges.

A message of solidarity and togetherness
“Bridge Kick” looks beyond sport: in a time increasingly marked by division and separation, the project creates a powerful metaphor for unity, respect, and lived solidarity. Visible. Tangible. Inspiring.
